Might it be a tad intimidating that this brilliant artist has sold over three million albums? Whew! Grammy nominated, Grammy Award-winning, with beautiful compositions that have been recorded by no less than Herbie Hancock and Annie Lennox. Paula has worked alongside some of the most captivating creators and interpreters of music that we've known - Peter Gabriel, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris - and Herbie again :)
Born into a musical family, Paula honed her own skills and became proficient on multiple instruments. It was in the 90's that we got to know how strong and special this sensitive artist is. Everyone remembers "I Don't Want to Wait" and "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone" from THIS FIRE. At the 40th Grammy Awards Show, Paula was nominated seven times - one of those was a first. She was the first woman to be nominated as sole producer for her immensely popular album. And she won "Best New Artist."
In subsequent years, Paula's work has been critically acclaimed - when she tours, there is a lush array of emotions and lyrics that are magical! Her schedule brings her to one of our favorite venues: Ram's Head in Annapolis, Maryland. She is also set to star at The World Cafe Live at The Queen - in Wilmington, Delaware. Paula also has something special planned in New York - she will be performing "This Fire" in its entirety - in honor of its 20th anniversary.
We'll have music for our unique episode that has been inspired by Paula - who studied Jazz at Berklee before launching her extremely successful Pop music career. But I am not one to put a being THIS talented in a box. No matter what she calls her music, Paula Cole is TRULY a Hybrid. She'll be amused and delighted by that. See you at ONE Eastern time on 4/24!
