Have mercy, this powerful woman from Chilliwack, BC, is on fire!  Bria Skonberg is her name - with ancient Swedish heritage and Dixieland in her veins.  Trumpeter, Vocalist, Composer, Bandleader and benevolent contributer to the community. Ten percent of the proceeds from her 2012 release, "So Is the Day", has benefitted The Jazz Foundation of America.

So - with that knowledge - it comes as no surprise that good things are coming Bria's way.  When one GIVES like that, they usually do :)  This award-winning artist knew early in life that she wanted to play the trumpet.  There she was, her first professional gig at 16, singing and blowing that horn - and blowing the audience AWAY!  She hasn't looked back since then - having played at countless Jazz festivals around the world, both as bandleader and guest   In 2010, Bria moved to New York City and there was an instantaneous connection.  She had headlined at Birdland, Cafe Carlye, Dizzy's and The Iridium.

Those that she has met in her fascinating journey have been significant.  Wycliffe Gordon has been one of those with whom Bria has felt kinship - and they have been involved in each other's projects.  The Jazz Journalists' Association and Downbeat Magazine Critics' Poll have taken notice of the incredible creativity of this gifted musician - and have publicly acknowledged their admiration.  Bria is the recipient of The New York Bistro Award for "Outstanding Jazz Artist."  Once you hear her previous effort and her latest CD, "Into Your Own", you'll HEAR why.  Combining her love of classic Jazz with World percussion, Soul and electronic effects, Bria delves into a different zone than anyone you'll hear.  SO different that she had actually staged an event combining Jazz and Stand-up :)

Our VERY cool guest joins us on 6/12 at two p.m.
