Call in to speak with the host
When Kyle Eastwood was growing up - near the sea in Northern California - he remembers visiting legends backstage at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Dad was a huge fan of All that was Jazz - and he had made it a point to take his kids to an event that he had hoped they would enjoy as much as he had. Turns out that DAD made the right decision :-D
Kyle learned his first bass line, left-handed, when his father taught him "Boogie Woogie." Rumor has it that he was four! Like a fish to water, so was the pull of that instrument to our artist. In high school, he went electric - and learned to play Motown and Reggae songs by ear.
Fortunate to be able to study with French bassist, Bunny Brunel, Kyle also found a calling to write for films. And he has (as many know) worked on MANY soundtracks through the years. But his heart has been wrapped around Jazz - and what it can be. He absolutely reveres its background - but Kyle is coming from a different place. Literally. Now living in France, he hears the leanings of Northern Africa and the Mid-East - and incorporates those global inspirations into the mix. SO, after five joyfully received projects - you're about to enjoy the fruit of ALL of his inspirations - with the release of "The View From Here" (3/12).
It has been 15 years since "From There to Here" - a debut that was (understandably) overshadowed by the knowledge that Kyle had a Dad who has been a superstar for decades. But his bloodline also includes his Mom, Maggie, who was also musically inclined. And HER Mom was a Music Teacher at Northwestern University. So that 1998 debut became a buzz that grew into huge acceptance. This is someone who has demonstrated extraordinary skill and passion. And you're about to hear MORE of it :) Join us on 2/27 at one p.m. EST!
