He was Hybrid before we knew the word. He was fusion before it was cool. He hummed on that Hammond as if he was ready to take flight - mindblowing! Classical and Jazz and Rock and British Pop from the 60's. We were stunned in Philadelphia when our new FM stations played Brian Auger and The Trinity. His partnership with "Jools" Driscoll mesmerized us, too. The soundtrack of our youth? You had best believe it. Some of us still have the LPS to prove it!
Bandleader, Consummate Keyboardist, Producer, Composer, and Legend - Brian Auger has taken us on a trip, with or without psychedelics - that has lasted for most of our lives. Whether it was the sound that contributed so much to other artists' success - or his own - including his vastly respected work with Oblivion Express - this breathtakingly talented Guru of the Hammond B-3 has given us decades of unbridled joy.
1965 with Steampacket: Rod Stewart, Long John Baldry, Vic Briggs and the aforementioned Jools (Julie Driscoll). The Express and Mogul Thrash - with the core of what would become the Average White Band. Stints with Jimi Hendrix and Eric Burdon and Sonny Boy Williamson. DOZENS of musical projects that you cannot get or have to WAIT to get - because the music is that coveted. Did i say mindblowing? Let me say it again :)
Brian is with us on 8/1 because he has a project on the way with Jeff Golub - who has embraced his visual challenges with "seeing" music a whole new way: with Auger - on "Train Keeps A Rolling." This is a new Jeff Golub - and Brian Auger was the funky, fused and fired up catalyst for change! Both superb artists are touring together in support of the CD - dropping 8/13 - so we have Brian RIGHT on time!
Get ready for some jaw-dropping music. And some unbelievable shared memories - from a musical icon.
