Cheikh Ndoye (SHAKE ENDOY) is a Bassist Extraordinaire, composer, arranger and Senegal transplant and is the embodiment of HYBRID. Early in his West African childhood, he heard all kinds of Jazz...and it danced in his head and fingers while hearing the rhythms of his native country.
Originally on piano, Cheikh would play the classical and contemporary Jazz that was on the radio - but his interest switched to bass. When he made the move to the Washington, D.C., area, there were many who took notice of the lightning fast bassist with fused world music with Jazz that sounded brand new.
So impressed were those who heard him, that "A Child's Tale" speaks for itself. Guests on Cheikh's CD include Randy Brecker, Russell Ferrante, and Eric Marientha. The album is a creative revelation, and it has gained the attention of artists who have since worked closely with Cheikh on tour - like Lao Tizer, Karen Briggs and Chieli Minucci.
A LOT if happening with our guest - including the fact that he's a new Dad - within the past few days! Let's celebrate a whole new meaning of "a child's tale" and look forward to a new month ahead - with some of the best music that you'll hear!
