When I used to program "the other side of Country", I called myself Alt CW Gal. That's actually part of my email address. Still. When I saw what Pete Giltin describes as what he does, I had to laugh: Alt Jazz!
After playing in Rock, Funk and Fusion bands in his teens and his twenties, Pete grooved his way into Jazz - and he incorporated all those influences into the mix. Who impacted him strongly: Metheny, Miles, and Steely Dan - with or without Larry Carlton.
Putting the music aside to raise a family, Pete became immersed in the corporate world - and managed to climb that ladder until he reached the Vice-Presidency of a Fortune 500 company.
While still working days, the legendary John Hererra of the Phoenix-based group, Turning Point, heard Pete. And encouraged him to record. "Full Circle and the Great Temptation" was released, featuring the artistry of Jeff Kashiwa and Michael Broening, among others.
Foot firmly at the musical door, Pete pushed it open - and finally reached the point where he said goodbye to his day job (a very big deal!) and jumped into the waters of full-time musicianship.
"Amplify" is the new CD from Pete - and continues his Alt Jazz Journey - featuring the wizardry of the aforementioned artists from his debut - and the stunning Cindy Bradley on trumpet, flugelhorn and euphonium (I'll wait until you look that up :)
We've got a lot to celebrate when Pete joins us: his rising star, for sure - and his BIRTHDAY! On 8/16, Pete raises a glass to another year - and will probably continue to receive gifts at his CD Release Party, which is planned for the 19th!
Two hours of music, starting at one p.m. Eastern - then Pete at 3 p.m. - music from our "Guitar Guru" will be heard through the show, as well as songs from the artists that inspired him!
