Call in to speak with the host
What a pleasure to catch up with popular saxman, Everette Harp! We haven't seen enough of him, but that may change! Everette joins me on Tuesday, July 19th, to kick off a show that promises to be even more exciting than usual.
Our Texas-born guest has been busy, as usual, but his itinerary just got even more so - he's in town to appear at Blues Alley in Washington, D.C. - and he's also scheduled for the Norfolk Jazz Festival, dates with Rick Braun, Patrice Rushen and Jeff Lorber - and also a huge event in South Africa with Wayne Henderson; a tribute to Miles Davis!
You may know of Everette's background regarding his association with Anita Baker, Kenny Loggins, George Duke and "The Arsenio Hall Show." What you may not know is that he is the youngest of 8 children, born into a Gospel-filled home - the son of a minister. Hearing the Soul of Houston fired him further, regarding music - and his saxophonist's ears were burning even more when he heard Grover, Turrentine and Hank Crawford while in high school.
Completing his degree, he launched into the local music scene and became well-schooled in studio musicianship - when he made the move to Los Angeles in 1988, success was assured. It possibly helped that Everette is The Best-Looking Man on the Planet :)
Digressing! Hear his story, including the day that Bill Clinton borrowed a sax...it's happening on "Hybrid Jazz!" www.everetteharp.com
