To describe Carmen Lundy in any other terminology but superlatives would do the world a disservice. We've been blessed to have her talents in the international Jazz community for over three decades. And her praise scales the wall of China - yes, THAT high. Legendary.
But there is actually more to Carmen than that uncompromisingly Jazz voice. Composer (her catalogue is legion), arranger, actress, teacher and painter of oils on canvas. Her works hang in prestigious locations - and her songs have taken root in our hearts. Ask Kenny Barron, Bruce Hornsby, Roy Hargrove, Ron Carter and Terri Lyne Carrington about the esteemed Ms. Lundy. Terri Lyne will tell you that Carmen's contribution to "The Mosaic Project" helped to net a Grammy this year.
Those who have been the recipient of Carmen's mentorship will tell you glowing stories, too. We're talking about national and international Master Classes for years - as well, support and work on behalf of Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead program. Carmen has been active in that D.C. based organization since 1998. And has also been a guest artist and clinician for the Thelonious Monk Institute.
You think I'm done here? Carmen has played the part of Billie Holiday, Off-Broadway; the lead in Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Ladies" - and has had her music heard on the popular television shows, "Mad Men", "The L Word" and "Boardwalk Empire."
Her new CD, "Changes", is glorious and we'll be discussing the original tracks, as well as a career that needs to be depicted via movie. We'll persuade her to get that going!
The show starts at 1 p.m. - Carmen joins us at 2 Eastern time.
