After hearing the re-make remix of Ice Cube’s, “Today Was a Good Day” blasting all over mainstream radio in the early 90’s, is when the seed was planted for me to have a radio station that didn’t play your favorite song to death. This era brought a new meaning to rotation and planted some seeds itself. There were big money to be made and big corporations compensating artist to mention their products in their music. I looked at producers impatient to re-coop monies from record sales and concerts shaking hands with non-music entities using music to sell clothes, shoes, liquor, and cars. It left every be-bop trio or quartet singers setting their site on making it. In the late nineties beat programs became available and the “put the mattress” over the closet studios rose and street hip-hop and rappers all wanted to be next. With pen and pad in hand and lyrics flowing in their heads, they wanted to be next in line to be successful in wealth. I believe they missed the point to making music and used their music to obtain possessions. From the seed planted in me, there was an invariable aspiration to succeed with Hotwordz Lyrical Theater. In 2010, I have reached my desired outcome. Yes, today is a good day. Hotwordz plays the music of independent artist like Mike “Bing-Bing” Taylor & Mocha B. from California, Young Ase from Pennsylvania, P.M.I. from Savanna, Georgia, Jeff Shepherd from Atlanta, Georgia, Sista Cassie from Jamaica & Andrew Zlak from Ontario, Canada. With their own idea of success, these independent artists continue making their music. Their achievements so far to stay on the grind has caused them to be noticed and they have the support of Hotwordz Lyrical Theater, the independent radio station giving them a nod reminding them, “Success is not access to excess."-Anonymous …and yeah, today is a good day.-Ghetto Gospel ***HOTdrops by Mz.
