Join us December 16th and learn more about a wonderful outreach program of companionship and sharing offered in Miami-Dade County Florida communities. Together with Elizabeth L. Morales, Senior Companion Program Coordinator of the Miami-Dade County Department of Human Services and guest callers – actual RELIEF volunteers, we will hear caring stories of how these volunteers help the Elderly, Disabled, and Veterans in the varied ethnic communities that make up the magical blend of Miami. RELIEF is a volunteer respite program that offers respite to family members and loved ones that are providing constant care for a frail, homebound elder. The program focuses on providing support for family caregivers beyond the provisions of currently existing community programs, including evening and weekend respite. RELIEF provides short term temporary care and companionship for up to four hours at a time, including evening and weekends. Services begin with the carefully selected, screened and trained volunteers of varied ages. The volunteers are placed no more than 10 miles from their home underscoring COMMUNITY.
