    PTSD HEALING OPTIONS

This week I will be appearing on:

OLD SCHOOL AMERICAN........  DFAC Frank's Show at 2:00 PM EST.   I will be speaking on many facits of PTSD including my own experiences....which brought me on a long sometimes dark journey to the present.

I would like to present a list of traumatic life experiences which can trigger PTSD, please read the list and if you feel you have had one of these experiences, then please do not hesitate to participate in this important show.

You have several options...you may e-mail me with your experiences and remain anyonomous and I will address your trauma verbally.  You can call in at 646-915-9057 and join our show with your questions and please share your experiences with us.

I am on MySpace at ClevelandCoach the address is on my profile. Or contact me here at blog talk.

I share this correspondence with you from Lorrayne who works with Veterans: I quote her:

"PTSD has been so poorly misunderstood for centuries...today..we should be down on our knees thanking every man and woman who has been scared by battle for educating the Public.  For it is our Armed Forces who brought to light the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...is real, and not just in the scope of the Military"

Here is a list of PTSD Events that may trigger a physical and mental conditions that affect everyone of us:

Children that have been raised in an abusive home
Children and adults who are victims of rape
Anyone who has been stalked and threatened
Children and adults who have been bullied
Children that have been raised in an abusive home
    Victims of a crime
Traumatic medical events in which you were not treated properly
    Domestic violence
Loss of a job or a home under unfair circumstances
    Victims of a Fire
Victims of a national disaster, displacement of life and home
A sudden loss in death of family, friends...etc
911, victims, family, children of Firefighters, Police..etc.  no matter where you were or your involvement can trigger PTSD...even watching events on TV
    Children and spouses of Alchoholics
    Verbal abuse and public humiliation

If you recognize any of these stresses as an experience from your past...and it is affecting your life now...and it's effects continue to interfere with your life, then you need to tune in on FRIDAY or contact me before FRIDAY.

I have a Bachlor of Science in Science and Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. I attended Baldwin Wallace College and Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio...and have continued to study and interact in the mental health field.  I spent 15 years teaching school and coaching and traveling around the world and the United States.  I did service during the Vietnam War with Navy Civil Service.. and where I was sent was considered a war zone, but I never used a gun or experienced real combat.  My involvement was civilian....I saw things heard things and experienced things that most women have not been exposed to.  I had a personal life which was horrific until I had an near death experience 15 years ago and pursued my demons. I now reside in Philadelphia and I am pursuing my dream in my 60's.  I am still the Coach...I now coach a different team.

I have PTSD.............. so despite all my education and experience I am still very much a victim...I can speak from experience and help others.  This is what has saved me....pulling myself out of a dark hole and going on to help others like me.  I have flashbacks.  I have bad days... I don't always understand my over reactions at the time that they are happening?....but I now know enough to defuse it and sort it out and be honest with myself to pull out of a tailspin.  I t is way less destructive.

A good day is when I can see all the good I have been able to accomplish....and share an experience and make a new friend.  It doesn't get any better than that.  A bad day is when I "go back there"  it seems to affect my whole being.  A really bad day is when I am a complete fruitcake...I have had a few of those.

I have lived to see my grandchildren born and grow into their teens, I have survived to regain my life back.......and what is more important I learned to accept myself and my experiences and learn to work with PTSD, instead of against my condition.

Please participate in this important project.  If you recognize any of the above situations as one of your own........contact me or Frank.  Write it down..........share it, talk about it.  PTSD is not just a military condition....in involves a lot of us and we do not even realize it.  The core trauma can date way back and you could have blacked the memory out.......so you may not be aware of why you have such high anxiety or fear.  It may not be obvious to you.

My friend Timothy Kendrick has written several excellent books of PTSD and you may contact him or LuLu press for a copy.

I look forward to hearing from all of you....Friday or privately.

    Thanks

    Holly
