After experiencing a horrible remodeling nightmare with the contractor from hell, Jody created the Web site to both warn and help others avoid the misery she and her family endured. Since then, she has been advising and guiding folks who have emailed her over the years. Through these contacts it became crystal clear as to what folks were doing wrong that got them into trouble. She began documenting and researching all the basic fundamentals that consumers needed to know and understand in order to have a more positive remodeling experience and mitigate the most common errors. According to the Consumer Federation of America and The National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators, home improvement has consistently ranked as one of the top 2 industries noted for consumer fraud and customer dissatisfaction in the last decade. "Folks don't know what they don't know and it's the not knowing that gets them into trouble", says Costello. So she came up with the idea of putting together a "Phd" course (Preventing home Disasaters) in remodeling for homeowners. "The [Pre]modeling Bootcamp for Homeowners" is Jody's latest creation. It's an on-line learning course that teaches consumers the fundamentals they must know in order to have a positive home remodeling experience, and to be in complete control of their project rather than at the mercy of the contractor.
