Amalia Starr is on a mission to tell the story of people who live in the shadows. Her new book, Raising Brandon, is an autobiographical account of her struggle to raise a son in a world where autism was not understood. The book follows Starr’s life from the birth of her youngest son, his diagnosis with autism, epilepsy, and learning disorders, and her goal to help him live independently. When most people hear autism they associate it with a child,but like her son Brandon who is now thirty-six, children grow up, and parents want them to live well and learn how to survive in the world.
