Chris Botta will join Alex and Steve to talk about everything surrounding the New York Islanders and continue to preview the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Mr. Botta is the former Public Relations President for the New York Islanders and now runs an independent blog covering the team. After just one year of blogging, his work is known around the league for being one of the first to break news regarding the Islanders and being one of the best hockey reads on the internet. On one March day, in fact, his blog received over 1 million hits! As always, listeners are encouraged to call in, IM us and participate in the HNLI Chat Room during the show.

The New York Islanders have made their biggest offseason move thus far by signing 2nd round pick Dustin Kohn. Kohn has developed into a great two-way defenseman and will have a big impact in the organzation. FULL ARTICLE
In other news, the Mike Milbury era is officially over on Long Island. Milbury resginged from his Senior VP position and will now only be an advisor to "Wang's special projects", such as Project Hope. FULL ARTICLE
HNLI Thoughts:
As far as I'm concerned, the Kohn signing is much bigger news than Milbury's resignation. Dustin Kohn may be the best chance this team has seen in a long time to develop a home-grown defenseman into a gem. Since being drafted in the 2nd round in 2005, this kid has made great strides. It's great to see that Garth is signing plenty of prospects this offseason and hopefully he'll have Wes O'neill inked very soon.
On the Milbury topic, I am glad to see this guy gone. He has brought too much pain and suffering to the fans of the Isles and it's about time he's gone. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think about the Luongo/Jokinen for Parrish/Kvasha trade. Not to mention that we should have 2/3 of the Senators' top line in Spezza and Heatley. Mike Milbury was a passionate GM who truly cared about this team, but boy did he manage to screw up big time.

Hockey Night on Long Island's fourteenth episode was another extremely informative and entertaining one. Steve and I analyzed the two latest signings by the Islanders, discussed the team's new ECHL affiliate, talked Smyth and Blake and Yashin, and took callers and IMs from some very knowledgeable listeners.
In bonus coverage, we took our sights off of the Islanders and made our Stanley Cup previews and predictions and discussed the top ranked prospects in the upcoming NHL Draft. If you did catch this, you got to hear me "pull a Chris Russo" and butcher some name pronunciations.
While on the subject of the NHL Draft, be sure to tune in next Saturday, June 2nd, at 3 PM EST for a very special guest. We will be joined by Matt Ebbs of International Scouting Services (ISS). Matt, who is the General Manager at ISS, will inform us all about the latest methods of hockey scouting and let us know who might be wearing Orange and Blue when draft weekend rolls around. To top it all off, Mr. Ebbs will take questions from callers and IMers. Be sure to tune in on Saturday, June 2nd at 3PM, for this extremely special episode.
Thanks for reading and Lets Go Islanders!

On two consecutive days, the New York Islanders announced two big additions to the Islanders franchise. First, the Islanders' signed top prospect Sean Bentivoglio, who was CHA player of the year with Niagara University and had a very impressive stint with the Providence Bruins in the AHL. FULL OFFICIAL ARTICLE
Today, the Islanders made a different type of addition by adding a new ECHL affiliate. The team is the Utah Grizzles, who had been unaffiliated since joining the ECHL in 2005. The Grizzles, however, were affiliated with the Islanders from 1994-1998 when they played in the International Hockey League. FULL OFFICIAL ARTICLE
I really like what Garth Snow and the Islanders are doing here. Similar to the earlier signing of prospect Trevor Smith, the Islanders bolstered their system by signing Bentivoglio. The guy has been compared to the likes of Chris Drury. It will be interesting to see how that works out.
As far as the Grizzles go, it is a good move. After losing their affiliation with the Ice Pilots, it's good to know that the Isles and Soundtigers have a team in the ECHL that they can count on.
