The New York Islaners are in the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In what may become known as the second Eastern Epic, the New York Islanders defeated the New Jersey Devils by a score of 3-2. By winning, the Islanders stole the final playoff spot from the Tornoto Maple Leafs. As many predicted, it was Scott Clemmensen between the pipes for New Jersey and Dubie/Yoda for the Isles. Richard Park scored twice, once in the first and once in the third to give the Isles a 2-0 lead. The game, however, was far from over. Not only did John Madden score the goal to make it 2-1, but he also sscored with .9 seconds left to tie the game at 2. The game went into the shootout where both Miroslav Satan and Viktor Kozlov scored for the Isles. Zach Parise scored for the Devils, but Dubie poke checked Brian Gionta and Sergie Brylin to win it for the Islanders. The Islanders will now play the NHL's best team, the Buffalo Sabres, in the first round of the playoffs. The series will begin on Thursday in Buffalo.
Just moments after the Islanders' clinched the playoff berth, Steve and I hit the airwaves with Episode 5 of Hockey Night on Long Island. With help from special guests Andy Facini and Tom Liodice, we filled our listeners in on the playoffs and answered plenty of questions from our excited callers and IMers. The episode can be heard on our website under the Archived Segments.
OUR NEXT EPISODE IS NOT YET SCHEDULED, BUT BE SURE TO CHECK OUR WEBSITE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK. ALSO, YOU SHOULD SIGN UP FOR E-MAIL REMINDERS ON THE WEBSITE SO YOU KNOW WHEN OUR SHOW WILL HIT THE AIRWAVES.
