Castleman's Disease Discussion  

Jim Johnston is the International Castleman's Disease Organization Executive Director. The International Castleman's Disease Organization (ICDO) is a patient advocacy forum designed for individuals who have been diagnosed with this rare disorder. Castleman's Disease (CD) is initially characterized by a benign single or multiple growths within the lymphatic tissue. It is normally found by scans in the neck, chest, abdomen or pelvis. This support group is intended to provide an interactive discussion for patients, families, and caregivers of Castleman's Disease. Mr. Mancino's interview will discuss the responsibility of the patient, patient advocate, and caregiver of a patient with Castlemans Disease. Specifically, physician / patient confidentiality, release of medical information and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Mr. Mancino represents major non-Profit organization in California where charity fund raising events are sponsored to support cancer research efforts. Mr. Mancino was a part of “ThinkCure”, a charity that will raise funds for cancer research at the City of Hope and Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. “They’re promoting ThinkCure as the official charity of the LA Dodgers.” “ They’re very interested in finding a cure,” Mr. Mancino said.
