The Cross of Christ

"For the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." 1 Cor. 1:18 and "But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God." 1 Cor. 1:23-24

    The Power of God

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul said, "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God" (I Cor. 1:18). How is the preaching of the Cross the Power of God? First of all, there is no power in the Cross, per se. Wooden beams contain no power. Moreover, there certainly was no power in the death of Christ on the Cross, at least within itself. In fact, Paul also said of Christ "For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you" (II Cor. 13:4). While Christ most definitely died in weakness, it was a contrived weakness. In other words, He could at any time have spoken the Word and been delivered from the Cross; but, of course, if He had done that, mankind would have remained unredeemed. So, where is the Power of which Paul spoke in I Cor. 1:18? The Power is in the Holy Spirit, as the Power is always in the Holy Spirit. Once again, THE CROSS MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT TO WORK. If we, as Christian Believers will exhibit simple Faith, with the Object of that Faith being Christ and the Cross, the Holy Spirit will then be able to carry out within our lives that which He alone can do.
