The Cross of Christ

"For the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." 1 Cor. 1:18 and "But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God." 1 Cor. 1:23-24

    An Old Testament illustration -02

"And Moses took of the anointing oil, and of the blood which [was] upon the altar, and sprinkled [it] upon Aaron, [and] upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon his sons' garments with him; and sanctified Aaron, [and] his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him" (Lev. 8:30). The blood was applied first and then the "anointing oil"; the latter was a Type of the Holy Spirit, again portraying the fact that the Holy Spirit works entirely within the framework of the Finished Work of Christ. Again, as it regards the cleansing of the leper, the Scripture says: "And the priest shall take [some] of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put [it] upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot: And the priest shall take [some] of the log of oil, and pour [it] into the palm of his own left hand: And the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that [is] in his left hand, and shall sprinkle of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD: And of the rest of the oil that [is] in his hand shall the priest put upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the blood of the trespass offering: (Lev 14: 14-17) Again, we see that the oil, which is a Type of the Holy Spirit, was not applied until the blood had first been applied, portraying the fact that the Holy Spirit works exclusively within the framework of the Cross at least as it refers to Christians. The Holy Spirit does nothing but that it is done strictly by and through what Christ did at the Cross. Yes, everything done in Old Testament times occurred before the Cross; however, it was done "on credit," one might say. This means that whatever action was taken by the Holy Spirit was done with the idea that the Redeemer is coming, and that one day the Cross would be an accomplished fact, which it was! Amen!
