The Cross of Christ

"For the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." 1 Cor. 1:18 and "But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God." 1 Cor. 1:23-24

Spiritual Adultery in the Old Testament -04

Our Lord used the same principle regarding the marriage bond between husband and wife, as it regards divorce and remarriage. It has the same reference as it did between God and Israel of old. The Lord said, "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery." (Matthew 19:9) If the marriage is dissolved for Scriptural grounds, fornication or desertion (1Cor. 7:15), I believe that remarriage is Scripturally allowed. If fornication (an adulterous lifestyle) is the manner of either husband or wife, that marriage can remain such in name only. If such a marriage is dissolved because one party engages in such a lifestyle, the innocent party, whether husband or wife, is (I believe) free to marry again. When the Lord divorced Israel, which He was forced to do because of their fornication (idolatrous lifestyle), He then married, one might say, the Church.
