The Cross of Christ

    Spiritual Adultery in the Old Testament -03

    In Jeremiah 3:8, the Holy Spirit plainly says through Jeremiah that the Lord divorced Israel because of her idolatry. "And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also." The Lord, as Israel's Husband, demanded faithfulness to Him. So when Israel went into idolatry, she was committing adultery or fornication against God which meant she was being unfaithful to Him. God had warned Israel time and time again, through Prophet after Prophet. Finally, there was no choice but for God to divorce Israel, which He did.
