    Las Vegas only for Gamblers?

If you've been to Las Vegas you will undoubtedly have knowledge of the Las Vegas Strip and the casinos as well as the nightlife.  It is one of the coolest places in the United States for partying, gambling and for the foodie...of course...food.  If you've never been to Las Vegas, then you have no idea what you are missing.  I think most people, however, may not know about the great outdoor offerings that surround Las Vegas and its lights.  If you want to get outdoors on your next visit you will definitely want to make it to Mount Charleston, which is about 45 minutes northwest of the city out route 95.  It offers great views of Las Vegas and cooler temperatures in the Summer from the often 116 degree fahrenheit temperatures of the desert floor.  Mount Charleston has two routes, north and south approaches, to its summit with the northern route being the longest.  It is a great mountain for training to hike Mt Whitney in California and just a great daytrip hike if you start early enough.  The summit offers views 400 miles in every direction and can be windy, so bring your wind-proof jacket.  Never hike alone in this area due to the many mountain lion habitats and sightings.  I hiked it solo, which I do not recommend unless you have experience.  The summit is approximately 11,000ft, give or take, and the trail is quite simliar to trails in Colorado with pines and aspen trees being plentiful.  You will also want to visit Red Rock Canyon which is 25 minutes west of the Strip and offers great vews of red rock and there are many trails into the canyons for boulder scrambling and great hiking.  We always recommend bringing plenty of water with you when hiking in the areas around Las Vegas...dehydration can come on quickly with the extreme Summer temperatures.  You will also want to visit Lake Mead and either go swimming, hiking or boating and jet skiing and it is located approximately 40 minutes east of the Strip.  While driving to Lake Mead you might as well stop by the Hoover Dam and visit the 'dam' gift shop for your 'dam' t-shirt.  We'll touch on our trip experiences on upcoming shows and give more tips on the trip!  Stay tuned and email us now any questions you might have for travelling to Las Vegas at heygbradio@yahoo.com.
