In February 1997 Fox News reporter Jane Akre, at the time a 20 year veteran of national TV news and mass media reporting and her husband, investigative reporter Steve Wilson, prepared an explosive news story that sought to answer some troubling questions: Why had Monsanto Chemical sued two small dairies to prevent them from labeling their milk as coming from cows NOT injected with "growth hormone rBGH"?
Why had two Canadian health regulators claimed their jobs were threatened--and then said Monsanto offered them a bribe to give fast track approval to the drug?
Why did Florida supermarkets break their much publicized promise that milk in the dairy case would NOT come from hormone treated cows?
Monsanto lawyer John Walsh bullied Fox News to the point Fox fired its news director and general manager for attempting to air an honest report, which was once considered journalism.
The new Fox News manager said: "We paid $3 billions dollars for these TV stations. We'll tell YOU what the news is. The news is what WE say it is!"
Jane & Steve's public health story never aired!
