    April 17th episode a hit!

    A great show today!  Anne from Georgia called in with a great question/dilemma.  She's sending out resumes but not getting any interviews.  After going over the basics: resume quality, cover letters and follow-up phone calls, I think we decided she needs to be more consistent and probably more assertive with her follow-ups and not be afraid to stop by the businesses (unless they state to NOT do that) in order to put a face with the piece of paper (her resume).  And she needs to fine-tune her job search so she can more succinctly state what type of job she's looking for and what type of company.  Specific yet have some flexibility, expanding on the industries which could use her help.  Thank you for the call Anne and I hope you listened to the rest of the show because I came up with some other ideas for you at the end of the show.

    Sometimes you have to go through a checklist to figure out what needs to be adjusted in your job search: cover letter? (too long or too vague?); resume? (too crammed or too choppy?); follow-up calls? (are you doing them and are you doing them enough?) Ask yourself to describe the job you're looking for in one concise sentence.  Write it out and then read it out loud.  If you read it back and you know exactly what you're looking for from that, you're on the right track but if you read it over and it's vague or you really can't tell what position you're seeking, then that needs to be addressed and fine-tuned.  Listen to the show to help you ask yourself some key questions and to fully utilize some overlooked resources.

    This week's show is canceled.

    As I mentioned on my show last week, I was going to do a show today, Friday Apr. 10th covering 10 offline resources for job openings.  I know I hadn't even posted the show yet and there apparently was a reason why.  I just got a morning wake-up call from my mom (never good news).  She has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, stage 4.  Show canceled for today.
