    New Blog!

    Hello all!

    I just
had to let you know I have created a much better blog (than my Yahoo 360 page) on WordPress.  My address is:  http://helpmegethired.wordpress.com.  I have to say I'm loving it!  I'm still playing around with the theme but a few Twitter-mates are posing some interesting questions along with some links to articles which are giving me lots of ideas for blogging.

My first day I blogged about why job match programs don't work and I just received affirmation again today that they really are not effective at all.  lol  (Read my tweets.)  Yesterday and today, I posted a two-part blog on the question:  Do recruiters overlook overqualified candidates?  It is a complex question and I encourage you to read both parts, starting with Part 1 (yesterday's post), please.

Just wanted you to know that I'm still here, still available.  Remember, if you want to call in with a question, please let me know and I'll be happy to host another episode just for you to do so!

    Wishing you a brighter future,

    Lisa (lablady)

    Job Resources for Military Families

Here is the list of web sites I mentioned on my show today:

www.usa.gov - Main government site with lots of options!

    www.militaryonesource.com -
The name says it all.  Not only has job search information but almost every aspect of living is addressed on this site.  Definitely explore.

    www.vetjobs.com - Veteran Jobs, self-explanatory.

    www.hireahero.org - Again, self-explanatory.

www.helmetstohardhats.org - Job site for military personnel to find a job in the construction industry, even has information on training and/or internships to gain experience.

www.usajobs.com - Site which lists Federal jobs for everyone:  military and civilian.

www.idealmilitaryhire.com - Even offers help with writing your resume, interviewing, etc. and is free for all military personnel job applicants.

www.opm.gov - US Office of Personnel Management

I hope these sites are helpful to you and yours.  Thanks for listening!! ;)

    Best wishes!

    Lisa

    Important News.

    To my listeners,

It is with sadness that I must let you know that my show, Help Me Get Hired, will be temporarily postponed after tomorrow's episode.
As you may have noticed, I've shortened my 1 hour show to 30 min. these past few weeks, and tomorrow's episode might be for only 15 minutes.  I am simply tapped out of general information.  I feel I have been extremely thorough in covering all topics within the job hunting process with many specific ways of helping yourself get hired, however, without audience participation (either from callers or write-ins), I simply don't have a show anymore.

I had hoped that by now I would get 1-2 callers each episode and in helping that one person with their specific obstacles or challenges, I'd be helping other listeners with similar scenarios.
But quite simply, without callers to interact with and to help, I cannot give more personalized and specific services to you.

If, however, I come across some encouraging and valuable information and/or resources, I'll pop on with another episode to relay that information to you.  I
hope you and other new listeners continue to gain some valuable insight and motivation from my archived episodes.  I really enjoyed doing this!

Now I know there is an audience out there for my show, as I can see hundreds of you have listened to my archived broadcasts and I thank you so much for listening!  I hope I have helped you find your strengths, your resourcefulness, and your creativity to help you find a good company and position and to get you hired!!  : )

If you would like to hire me for more personalized services in writing your resume or interview skills coaching or even career counseling, you can reach me at www.helpmegethired.com and I'd be happy to help you.  My services and fees are listed.  And, as always, if you have any ideas for topics or have a question for another episode of this BTR show, then by all means, let me know that too!

Remember...you deserve a brighter future and I most certainly wish you one!  ; )

Upcoming episode on Job Resources for Military Families!!

I've been doing a lot of research and have found some great sites to help our military soldiers and families with their job searches.  I've spoken to those who have loved ones in the military and they didn't know about them so I wanted to make sure these sites get some "air-time".  If you have any additional sites, please don't hesitate to call in on Friday!

    Best wishes,

    Lisa
