Our host Sharon Beth interviews Michael Manoogian Logo Designer Part 2.

I've been around these parts since November 5, 1940 - in a small town, Milford, Massachusetts. As a kid I was always drawing. I found out early on that I could make things look right on paper. While most friends and others in school had to be wondering, "What am I going to be when I grow up?", I never had that problem. I was always going to be an artist.

At Rhode Island School of Design 1958, it dawned on me what kind of artist I would be.  When I made my first letter in Calligraphy class the creative passion and floodgates opened up. I LOVED IT!!! And from then on I immersed myself in it.

I graduated in 1962.  I worked in a design studio designing brochures, ads, lettering. I started free-lancing about 1967.

It was in LA that I got to do lettering and designing logos for real and ALL of the time. I did the lettering and logos for a ton of record albums. I had pretty much free reign to create whatever I wanted, whatever I thought was appropriate for the cover I was working on. I met up with the "guru" of all record cover art directors, Bob Cato. He loved my work and got me in to see the art directors at record companies. I did album cover logos for Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton. George Harrison, Janis Joplin, We Are The World, Hands Across America, Stevie Nicks, Gordon Lightfoot, Toto, America, the Ninja motorcycle, the comedian Gallagher, and more. Designed three of the Super Bowl logos - XlV, XVlll, and XlX.

Met up with Ken Kragen in LA. Kenny Rogers manager and  also the mastermind and horsepower behind We Are The World and Hands Across America. Every time Ken needed a logo he would call on me to design it. He knew the power and importance of a logo.
