    Date / Time:

Susan E. to entertain at OBAMA Inaugural Celebration Kick off Party this Sunday in Los Angeles

    January 18, 2008 – Sunday

    OBAMA Inaugural Celebration and
    Community Service Kick-Off Party
    (Meeting)
(Please bring something for our “POTLUCK”)

The OBAMA, (Change Has Come To America), group of Greater Los Angeles is hosting a very special Inauguration Celebration on Sunday, January 18th in the Burton Chase Park clubhouse in Marina Del Rey.  We will also be dedicating part of this event to kicking-off the Monday, January 19th national day of community service which coincides with the Martin Luther King holiday.

Come break bread with like-minded people, be entertained by
Larry Covin and his wonderful group of great entertainers and be a part of an unforgettable and historic Inauguration Event. (Tuesday, January 20, 2009, is the inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama.)

Our group is hosting a pre-Inaugural event with a dual purpose: To celebrate this significant and historical inauguration and to educate individuals about what can be done in our own neighborhoods. We realize the new administration has a huge task ahead and we have to provide support locally and become more active in our communities.

The event is on Sunday, January 18th from 3:00 – 7:00 pm at Burton Chase Park in Marina Del Rey. We will be using the community room/clubhouse and have a wonderful afternoon planned. If you are able to join us, please contact Larry Covin (310) 927-7691 as soon as possible.

In an effort to highlight volunteerism, we are inviting non-profits with a health care focus and food bank services. The organizations will provide an overview of their services; share how we can make potential clients aware the services exist as well as how to access them, and how individuals at our gathering can volunteer/assist throughout the year. We are hoping to get participants to volunteer the next day, the national day of community service, with groups represented at our meeting. Or, at least be inspired to get out and do good work in the community throughout the year.

Some of the other healthcare groups include Westside Family Clinic and UMMA. Food banks will definitely include the LA Regional Food bank.

In case you can't participate as a volunteer, then we ask you to collect "change for change." To do this, participants are encouraged to get a large jar or zip-lock bag and fill it with their loose coins and single dollar bills over the next weeks, then bring it to the gathering and identify which group the monetary donation will go to. We will also be gathering food donations for the LA Regional Food Bank at the event.

We have invited Councilman Bill Rosendahl and Councilwoman Jan Perry to share what is going on in their districts, the city and how individuals can participate locally. It is simply amazing how many talented citizens are incredibly inspired to give back to the community and hungry to learn how to contribute. Our guest speakers will help provide focus and lay the foundation for change.

We will also have food (it’s a potluck – bring your special dish) along with our entertainment.

We are honored to have an
African Priest, Rei Henry-Alla, who will do a blessing over our olive tree that will be covered with written wishes and prayers for peace as well as our meal before we break bread together.

Additionally, we will have original photographs of
Nelson Mandela on display. This is a grassroots effort and the meal will be a potluck-style meal. We are getting a good response and offers to help
