Not only does he live by example but I believe he is a truly Healthy Voice. He's a man that is willing to talk about food issues when it's a taboo issues for men and like me, he's an advocate for treating beyond the physical. Listen in as we talk about his recently published book as well as some strategies for you to get through the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. _________ "Fat Boy Thin Man," just published by Fisherblue Press, is a memoir wrapped by an argument. The memoir tells the story of a fat childhood that became an obese adolescence that last into the author Michael Prager's 30s. He weighed 365 pounds on the day he entered the eating disorders unit of a rehab hospital in 1991. In combination with group and individual therapy, and support groups, rehab was a vital turning point on his path, which has led to his having normal-size body for almost 20 years. His experience leads to the book's larger purpose, to spread the word that remedies for obesity that address only the physical problem won't work for a significant number of sufferers, because emotional and spiritual issues are also at work. The steps back to health may be more involved than just skipping desert for a while, but they also pay off gloriously: Prager's life has flowered during these 20 years, professionally, creatively, and especially in family. He didn't have his first girlfriend until he was 36, he married at 46, and he became a dad at 52. Prager says that many people, counselors as well as peers, opened up their hearts and minds to him to make his recovery possible, and that his book continues that chain of help from one person to another.
