Don Berwick is running for Governor of Massachusetts to make that state a beacon for the rest of the nation. Already the first state in the nation to embrace universal coverage (98% of adults and 99% of children have health insurance), Dr. Berwick sets his sight on achieving the Triple Aim of better care, better health, and a lower cost througbh improvement. To do this, he says, we must move away from fee-for-service payment and fragmented delivery to coordinated, team-based, integrated care. He promises to convene a summit of all stakeholders, after he is elected, to develop an action plan to reach that goal.
In addition, remarkably, Dr. Berwick says "it is time to find a way to get to yes on a single payer system in Massachusetts." (Yes!!). To achieve this he will appoint a multi-stakeholder Single Payer Advisory Panelthat will investigate and report back within six month on how Massachusetts moves to a single payer health insurance system like Medicare for all.
He will also focus on prevention and health improvement, programs to curb domestic and physical violence, better mental health care, and patient safety.
Join us as for an exciting episode focused on Dr. Berwick's healthcare platform for Massachusetts. Dr. Berwick will be taking call from the audience.
