“The Power of Testimonies and Memory in Remaking the Past” with Laurie Levinger.
A retired social worker and writer, Laurie Levinger joins us to discuss her book “Guatemala: ¿Cual Guerra? Testimonios de Sobrevivientes Maya [What War? Testimonies of Maya Survivors].” We’ll speak to Levinger about her work recording testimonies of students who were impacted by Guatemala’s civil war. Her book helps to create a historical memory of the armed conflict and her wish to bring hope for the future. Recollecting the past, we have a conversation with Levinger about the importance of documenting first-hand accounts of young survivors as a way of reminding us of the true cost of war.
