1. That I lived to see this day. So many almost made it to the day of the promised land, but didnt get quite this far, including his own grandmother.
2. I nod my head and bow my heart to those who came before us in the struggle, like Martin, Malcolm, Medgar, Goodman Cheney and Schwerner, Rosa, Jack and Bobby Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson for signing the Voter Rights Act, and countless others who marched, bled, went to jail, and refused to give up.
3. My ancestors who instilled in me the strength, courage, pride, determination, and optimism to believe there could be a brighter day..
4. My parents who taught me to dare to dream.
5. That this election is finally over, and I can go the CNN and MSNBC anonymous. I am tired of turning on the tv in the middle of the night to check Jon Kings election map, or see if Anderson Cooper or Keith Olbermann have anything new to say. I can actually sleep thru the night.
6. All the youth who felt they were part of this process, all those who stood on line for hours, all those who put aside their fears, and chose hope instead.
7. Obama most of all for believing this was possible, even before any of us thought it was possible.
8. Last, but not least, the Almighty, who ordained and predestinated this man to lead us from the wilderness of hate, racism, diviseveness, ignorance and intolerance, to the land of free, home of the brave, one nation truly under God, with liberty and justice for all.
And now I am going out to by an American flag to hang outside my house. Because like Michelle, for the first time in my life, I am truly proud to be an American.
