Tess Gadwa logged 10,000 miles as she journeyed through the deep south to understand its religious culture. She shares true stories of miracles, visions, voodoo, snake handling, and civil disobedience in her colorful book, Southern Cross, Tess spoke with right-wing evangelicals and left-wing peace activists, survivors of the Katrina flood and veterans of the Civil Rights movement.
She discovered that the Bible Belt is not the dogmatic mono culture so often assumed by outsiders, but a vivid patchwork of beliefs, cultures, and ideologies. Southern Cross' message is that we can learn more from each other than from clergy and church dogma.
