Discovering Humanism - Leaving the Fold of Toxic Religion and Spiritual Abuse

Mriana Brinson, author of A Source of Misery, is an evangelist of sorts.

Her evangelism is humanism.



Although she is not a theist herself, Brinson advocates humanism because it fills the void left by atheism and also does not condemn those who want to believe in gods.

In A Source of Misery, Brinson lets us peer into her personal life as she navigated her way through spiritual and sexual abuse inflicted by family members who embraced patriarchal religion, her mother’s continual “born again” experiences, and her own struggles with finding meaning in religion.

Mriana has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and has contributed a chapter to Marlene Winell's upcoming book relating to the steps of recovering from toxic religion. Winell is author of Leaving the Fold.

We’ll be discussing spiritual abuse, leaving the fold, neuro-psychology and how it ties in with religion, deities and metaphysical experiences, atheism and, of course, humanism.

Joining in the discussion will be Alexander – known on YouTube as TrueEmergence – who was on his way to becoming a member of the clergy but discovered in seminary that there were just too many questions that could not be logically answered. Dakota O’Leary will offer her insight about leaving the fold, fundamentalist religion and spiritual abuse.
