Heroin use has been on the rise in metro Detroit in recent years, officials said. A Free Press analysis published in February found an increase in 2008 in the number of young adults dying of heroin-related deaths in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties. Undercover officers throughout the metro area have been tailing, then arresting, suburban residents taking public buses into Detroit to buy heroin and other illegal drugs, investigators said Friday.
