First I will explain the difference between a "Cemetery" and a "Graveyard." 2. Funeral Customs for different cultures and religions: www.ReligionLink.com (from front page, use search box at top right corner and type in the phrase "Funeral Customs" up will come a short list of results and choose the article: "The Transformation of American Funerals." 3. Locating graves and cemeteries: www.FindAGrave.com (from front page choose surname search, from there the search choices can be personalized by surname, states, etc.) 4. Association of Gravestone Studies, www.Gravestonestudies.org (from front page scroll all the way down to the very bottom and click on "site map" then from the site map page, choose FAQ. FAQ has general information and on this page are articles pertaining to Grave Art symbols. 5. Often we discover that a grave will have initials that stand for an organization the deceased belong to. To locate a present-day list of the dozens of societies and associations follow the link at: www.Hereditary.us and choose from the menu on the left: Society Lists. This is truly mind-boggling!
