Popular Talk Show Host, Lydia Aswolf welcomes Melissa Carey to the show! Melissa Carey’s first love and passion is writing. This summer, she will publish the first novel in a children’s literature series. The content is geared for the reading enjoyment of middle school aged children and is intended to assist children in dealing with grief and loss in an open and honest way, without being insulting or depressing. Ms. Carey is developing a multi-media approach in conjunction with her first book that will encourage today’s youth to read more and write better. She has plans to publish two more of her finished manuscripts for preschool age children in 2012. Ms. Carey is a graduate of Slippery Rock University with a BS in Music Therapy. She has been a guest speaker and workshop leader on using music to deal with grief and loss for United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) and has written several articles and a poem to be published in the UMWA journal. Ms. Carey also continues to use music therapy in her work with children. She is also active in her community, assisting non-profit organizations in utilizing digital (social) media forums to increase public visibility and is a regular story contributor to Pittsburgh on Video. Ms. Carey stays connected with today’s youth as the director of an elementary school musical and performing arts program as well as being active with her four children in their hometown near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
