BATES Youth Conference & Theatre Festival Saturday May 15th, 2010 11am-5pm SUNY Downstate Medical Center Christine Rucker, Founder of BATES Network BATES was founded in 1992 by the Adolescent Education Program (AEP) based at SUNY Downstate Medical Center @ Brooklyn. The Adolescent Education Program (AEP) provides preventive health education and counseling to youth at-risk. Teens Helping Each Other (THEO) is a youth development project that trains adolescents to be mentors and HIV prevention peer educators. The BATES network is a collaborative effort of community-based peer education programs in Brooklyn that have joined together to combat the rising rates of HIV infection amongst Black and Latino youth. Conference Overview: The BATES Youth Conference & Theatre Festival is a opportunity for teens through discussions and non-traditional teaching modalities to work towards positive goals in their lives. The BATES Conference is coordinated by youth for youth. Please find enclosed the Save The Date Flyer for the event. At a later date, you will receive a conference brochure along with a registration form, where you can register your students to attend. The brochure will contain workshop details, entertainment information and discussions topics.
