The Get Social! Radio Show

"Get Social!” is an interactive, live Internet talk-radio show that highlights the activities of local businesses and organizations in Dayton and the Miami Valley. As the name implies, the broadcast is to help enable socialization of businesses with the community and their customers. Hosts Mike McDermott and Greg Enslen explore juicy, “behind-the-scenes” information about businesses across the Miami Valley as well as the ties that their special guests have to the community. ***UPDATE*** We have now moved our show over to our site http://getsocialradio.com where you can listen to us at 128bit rate quality goodness, listen to all of our archived episodes and call into our show reliably. Episode Two- Show Notes

The High energy radio show featuring hosts Mike McDermott and Greg Enslen.

Episode Two Live Stats: 12 listeners, 6 callers, 6 visitors in chatroom
    Episode One Subscriptions: 40

Greg and Mike welcome their very special guest, Mark Mabelitini, Director of the Tipp City Public Library to the show.

Mike shared in the first segment some various ways that businesses are using Twitter to succeed. Mike and Greg however first explained the basics of Twitter, how to sign up, how to add friends and how to use the messaging features.
Twitter provides brief messaging (140 characters) for people to share what they are doing, ask their followers questions and elicit feedback.
Mike was excited to hold the first live listener activity and asked them to tweet the answer to the following question to his twitter name: @delta40 "What is the name of the school in Harry Potter?" Co-host Greg was the first one to reply with the answer... "HogWarts!"
This listener contest would have been more fun if indeed a non-host won the prize. Lets get a bit more participation in the next listener contest...
40% of all Twitter links direct people to other content online (blogs, ecommerce websites and funny YouTube videos)
Mike sent people to Bing.FM and not Ping.FM and as a correction it is Ping.FM that allows you to update more than one social media outpost at a time.

Mike shared a true story about an elderly woman who murdered at deer. Here is the video!

In the second segment, we re-introduced Mark Mabelitini and he shared some of the key areas that have first caused the funding shortfall for Ohio libraries. Both Greg and I were unaware that the 2009 funding shortfall was not due to executive decision, but rather the general reduction in Ohio revenues (tax revenues) this year. Of course this ties back to the reduction in the number of active Ohio businesses and income taxes collected by the employed. The Tipp City Library has already back on hours (by 20%) and began to seek out alternate public and private funding to keep the doors open. If the Governor's proposed cuts in library funding are approved by the Ohio legislature, the Tipp City Library would have to cut another 30% of expenses and hours.
The Ohio Governor, Ted Strickland received 13,000 emails regarding the impact of the cuts.

Caller #1 asked Mark what his Favorite book was. Mark replied that his favorite book is A Walk in the Woods by Bryson. He said it is a LOL book. Favorite author is Harlin Cobin or Jonathan Kellerman. Mark is ready for kids-book time, his favorite is "Why is Snot Green".
Other callers asked Mark "Why are there alot of books in the library"
A Chatroom participant asked Mark "what would he want to do at the library if you HAD the funding?"
Another caller asked about DVD rentals. Mark replied that the library is like a "Free Netflix"

You can find out more information about the Mark and the library at http://www.tippcitylibrary.org

In the third segment we covered Geek as a Verb.
