Mike described how The Get Social! Show will help Ohio businesses find a voice to communicate with the local community. Part public service, part great fun the Get Social! show will build an entertaining and informative dialogue that is... social!

Greg shared that the Get Social! show is now being syndicated on iTunes music store.
WHEE! This will be a fun ride!

Mike shared in the first segment about the pitfalls and benefits of hiring in a down economy. Potential employees may low-ball their talents and salary in order to gain employment. This may be an unwise choice as when the economy returns and gains strength that employee will be quickly looking for a large raise from his current employer, or a job elsewhere. Mike provided guidance to employers to continue hiring during the down economy, and use the time wisely to train and cross pollinate talent and best utilize your down cycle. He also warned employers that while getting great talent on the cheap right now may be working for you, eventually those slave wages will create a mass exodus. Finally Mike shared that the Get Social show will be highlighting tough business subjects like this as we go along.

Mike introduced in the special guest segment Reed Spencer of ReMax Professionals. Reed came to the Get Social! studio to share some information about Vintage Baseball.
Apparently Greg came up with the idea to bring Vintage baseball back to Tippecanoe City. The first team was called the "Tippecanoe Sleepies" in the late 1800's. It is rumored that the Sleepies played (and beat) the Cincinnati Reds as well as a team from Cuba (The Cuban All-Stars)!   Reed shared that the Tippecanoe Canal Jumpers will be hosting the Kettering Clodbusters for one exhibition game at the Willowtree Inn, a Bed and Breakfast owned by Kevin and Sadie Lett on August 16th. There are about 30 teams in Ohio that put on these vintage baseball games. If enough interest is drawn this year, more effort will be put into the team next year! Greg and Reed shared about the great skit on Conan O'Brien about 3 years ago on vintage baseball. Here it is!!

There were a couple of interested callers with questions that that Reed "fielded". The first caller, Samantha asked a two part question. First, "is anyone concerned with catching a ball without a mitt?" and Second "Are there women that will be playing on this team, or will there be a ladies team?"   Reed said that balls are a bit softer and larger than a baseball and that there are ladies teams but it is primarily a mans sport.

The second caller, Jessica wanted to know more about the vintage dress. "Will the spectators be in period dress?" Reed explained that there will be a few who will be wearing period wear, but for the most part the fans will come as they are. And the game will be FREE for all spectators. Harrisons will be setting up a fundraiser for the event, and we will update the show page and the http://tippecanoecanaljumpers.com site with more info on this. Finally Greg and Mike shared how events like vintage baseball does support downtown development and grass roots economic stimulus.

The third and final segment focused on the topic of Facebook! Mike explained how Facebook has "exploded". Facebook allows you to share as much or as little information about yourself as you want. You can reconnect with old friends, school buddies and family and share photos, comments, favorites etc. Greg walked listeners through how to create a Facebook page from scratch. Facebook can also be a passive way to watch what others are doing without having to actively communicate with them.   Facebook for business: Mike shared how facebook can advertise and promote your brand or your company through the use of Facebook pages and fan-pages. It is an absoutely opt-in way of dealing with advertisers. You as a user have to actively pursue the brand or company fan pages in order to receive updates!

Third caller, Matt Owen wanted to know what is going on with the Cincinnati Reds, and whether or not they will step up and earn a title. It has been a long time... Reed believes that the Reds have some great offense but has difficulty in closing out games because of their off-kilter bullpen. Matt Owen will be playing on the vintage baseball team.

Apologies to those callers that we were not able to get to for our first show. Please call in next week!  Next week's special guest is Mark Mabelitini, Director of the Tipp City Library who will be sharing info about the Ohio library funding issue. We will not be shushing him.
