The Get Social! Radio Show

"Get Social!” is an interactive, live Internet talk-radio show that highlights the activities of local businesses and organizations in Dayton and the Miami Valley. As the name implies, the broadcast is to help enable socialization of businesses with the community and their customers. Hosts Mike McDermott and Greg Enslen explore juicy, “behind-the-scenes” information about businesses across the Miami Valley as well as the ties that their special guests have to the community. ***UPDATE*** We have now moved our show over to our site http://getsocialradio.com where you can listen to us at 128bit rate quality goodness, listen to all of our archived episodes and call into our show reliably. Episode Point Five - Show Notes

This episode was primarily created in order to test the new equipment and the format of BlogTalkRadio. We learned a lot of things about our broadcast this evening and thank everyone for their participation.

Live Show Stats: 18 Listeners, 4 Callers

Levels for the intro and the host voices were adjusted after the beginning monologue. We shared the goals of the show with the listeners; specifically we will focus on creating impromptu discussions and dialogue with local business owners and organizations that will allow them to not only share information that is not available from their advertising and brand marketing, but also to delve into their personal connections with the local area.

We moved into a segment where we covered Halo 3. Host Greg Enslen shared that this First Person Shooter was developed in September of 2007 and is the #1 Game on the Xbox 360 console. Microsoft has sold $4.2 million copies at $60 apiece. We both felt that this was alot of money with tons of zeros. $252 million is the number that we were wrestling with.
Mikey McDermott (son of the host) was an impromptu guest of the show and shared some insight on Halo 3 and how to sucessfully "Pwn N00bz" in this first person shooter. As captain of Team Scope Dome Mikey is currently seated as the #1 position in the Halo 3 tournament at the Big Robot Game Cafe http://bigrobotgamecafe.com.

Caller #1 to the show was Matt Owen, Executive Director of the Tipp City Area Chamber of Commerce. He shared some information about this weekend's activities with the Downtown Tipp City Partnership http://visittippcity.org , as well as the Antiques and Artisan show. Matt shared that the event was a great success, and passed along some thanks to Ruth Safreed, Lori Spencer and Lori Wrhel for their help in corrdinating the Farmers Market and 6th annual Antiques and Artisan show. Matt shared that Richard Macey of Muddy Truck was very pleased with his sales, and that he will share more information about the financial success of the event next week. Matt added some great news from Ben and Evelyn Staub of Benkin Antiques. They have opened up the second floor as "Studio 14" which will house dozens of artists and their works of art. Greg closed the segment with some thanks to Ruth Safreed of Midwest Memories who without her help, the Antiques and Artisan show would not have so effectively showcased Tipp City as a hub for this type of business growth.

I started to explore some of the background that Greg had to share about the Big Robot Game Cafe. I asked him what type of pratfalls he would avoid if he were to open up a game cafe again... Greg said that first off he purchased way too much stuff initially. He also shared that he discovered (a bit too late) that his target demographic was not the 18-25 year old gamer. Rather he found out that his target demographic was 8-16 year olds who do not have cars, and do not have the $$ to afford all the best and latest games out there.

Our third and final caller was Bill Condo, a web developer for Coexist http://www.coexistcreative.com in Columbus. Bill was our first ever Skype caller who came in very clear over the mics but was almost impossible to hear during the re-broadcast. I'll have to look at the Skype feed settings and how it binds to the output signal. (technical talk, please forgive) I met Bill last week at PodCamp Ohio 2009 at The Ohio State University. Bill had some great information to share about Search Engine Optimization and design/plan for a great site that is optimized for business. During the show however his ISP kept disconnecting him so we were not able to have a solid convo with him. I hope that he calls in on Wednesday through the web point and click connection so we can have a better chat.  I explained a bit about PodCamp Ohio 2009 and what the goals of this social networking organization are all about.

Caller #3 and the final connected caller for the night was Sam from Tipp City. She wanted to hear our thoughts on "getting social" over coffee. She shared that coffee usually tastes best when she is sharing a cup with her mom over at her mom's house.
Greg and I concurred that the socialization that occurs has a positive impact on everything that you do. The tastes that you experience, the food you eat and yes.. the beer that you drink. The special Ale served during Episode Point Five was Oaked Arrogant Bastard that was obtained from Miami Valley Wine and Spirits here in lovely Tipp City.  We thoroughly enjoyed the taste of a great beer during the show, and it was even better thanks to the great conversations and great callers.

Finally, after teasing the subject all night, we shared the topic and the guest name for Episode One of "Get Social!" -- Reed Spencer, local realtor, past president of the Downtown Tipp City Partnership http://visittippcity.org and organizer of the Vintage Baseball exhibition team will be our special guest on Wednesday, July 1st at 9PM. The Tipp City exhibition team name will be the Tippecanoe Canal Jumpers. More info can be found at http://tippecanoecanaljumpers.com

We look forward to the great discussion and live callers on Wednesday during our inaugural show! We hope to see you there! Please remember to visit our Get Social! show page at http://bashfoo.org/getsocial  to find out more about the show, or register for the weekly SWAG give-away!!! More to come on that during Episode One!
