What is a Locavore? Wikipedia defines it as someone who eats food grown or produced locally or within a certain radius such as 50, 100, or 150 miles. The locavore movement encourages consumers to buy from farmers’ markets or even to produce their own food, with the argument that fresh, local products are more nutritious and taste better. Locally grown food is an environmentally friendly means of obtaining food, since supermarkets that import their food use more fossil fuels and non-renewable resources. In the first segment we will be taking calls about being a locavore as well as discussing the pros/cons of it. We will feature a call from Marilou K Suszko author and culinary instructor who will walk us through what Locavore Means. She is also author of the book, Farms And Foods of Ohio: From Garden Gate to Dinner Plate Available from Amazon.com through the show page link. The second segment features our very special guest Craig Harmer, Product Development Manager for Spring Hill Nursery. Craig will be sharing with listeners some of the many ways that Spring Hill Nursery sources the oustanding products that they ship to customers across the US. In the third and final segment we will be taking calls from locavores and Craig will be available to answer your questions! Craig will also be giving away a $25 gift certificate to the caller that we pick who also is a fan of our facebook fan-page! If the caller is not a fan, we pick another caller!
