PEAS IN THEIR PODS

PEAS IN THEIR PODS

Did you know that every 40 seconds a child is reported missing in the United States . Of these missing children, 33 percent are African American children. There are astronomical numbers of abused, missing and murdered African American children that fail to get the needed exposure in the media. Very rarely are their precious little faces posted on milk cartons and bulletin boards, or reported on network and cable news shows. Saving Our Children was created in March of 2007 to address this alarming epidemic. Our mission is to make the African world aware of the plight of these children, and to make them a community/national priority. Because we strongly believe that every child’s life is important, regardless of race and socioeconomic status. Please help us spread awareness about this current crisis. Please visit out website (www.savingourchildren.bravehost.com) for more information about the organization, and to observe the slide show of many of the children that are currently missing. Please feel free to contact us at any time at (516) 333-9882. We thank you in advance for your assistance.

    The Company You Keep

    Author Unknown

It Is Better To Be Alone, Than In The Wrong Company. Tell me who your

best friends are, and I will tell you who you are.  If you run with
wolves, you will learn how to howl.  But, if you associate with
eagles, you will learn how to soar to great heights.

"A mirror reflects a man’s face, but what he is really like is shown by
the kind of friends he chooses."  The simple but true fact of life is that
you become like those with whom you closely associate -

for the good and the bad.

The less you associate with some people, the more your life will
improve.  Any time you tolerate mediocrity in others, it increases your
mediocrity.  An important attribute in successful people is their
impatience with negative thinking and negative acting people.  As you grow,
your associates will change.  Some of your friends will not want you to go
on.  They will want you to stay where they are.  Friends that don't help
you climb will want you to crawl.  Your friends will stretch your vision or
choke your dream. Those that don't increase you will eventually decrease
you.  Don't ask someone who's lost themselves to help you find your way -
if they can't help themselves, they certainly can't help you.

Don't spend time with people who do not contribute something of
substance or value to your life, that means: don't waste your major
time with minor people, life's far too short for that. Remember, nothing
ever stays the same - in a year from now you will either be better off or
worse off, your relationships will either be strengthened or weakened, you
will either have progressed or regressed.

Look to people who are humble/spiritual/charitable/joyous/friendly
without any hidden agendas or motives, so that you can aspire to be
like them and look to people who have less than what you have, so that you
can be grateful. And remember, it's not the quantity of friends or
acquaintances that you have that's important, it's the quality of your
friendships that really matter - it's better to have a handful of
unconditional, true-blue friends that will be there for you at the
drop of a hat in the good times AND the bad, and who knows you inside
out, than having many superficial, fair-weather friendships.

    Consider this:
    * Never receive counsel from unproductive people.
    * Never discuss your problems with someone incapable of contributing
to the solution, because those who never succeed themselves are always
first to tell you how.  Not everyone has a right to speak into your
life.  You are certain to get the worst of the bargain when you
exchange ideas with the wrong person.
    * Don't follow anyone who's not going anywhere.  With some people you
spend an evening: with others you invest it.
    * Be careful where you stop to inquire for directions along the road
    of life.
    * Wise is the person who fortifies his life with the right friendships.

    A Mother’s Faith

Recently, we celebrated my mother’s 54th birthday. I thank God for this generous and caring woman that He has allowed to be my mom.

One of the things I’ve always admired about her—besides her great pancakes (my favorite)—is her tenacious faith. She has endured great pain and suffering in her lifetime—the spiritual, emotional, and physical kind. Though she hasn’t always submitted to Jesus’ lordship in her life, she has always demonstrated a strong belief in a God who has control over our circumstances.

But even the fearlessly faithful struggle from time to time with things that are greater than themselves…things that God must help them bear and eventually surmount.

    New, Uplifting Film: "Fireproof"

After reading that movies are the leading method of influencing this generation, two Baptist pastors, Alex and Stephen Kendrick, formed Sherwood Pictures, a media ministry with the aim of producing positive and inspiring films without sex, violence or profanity. Following the success of their first two movies, Flywheel and Facing the Giants, their latest film, Fireproof, appears in theaters September 26th. Keep reading to see why we think this thought-provoking, uplifting film is a must-see.

Why do we recommend you watch this movie?

    1. We believe in the mission of the producers, who are trying to influence the culture positively from a Christian perspective through mainstream media.
    2. Fireproof reaffirms the sacred institution of marriage in a culture plagued by divorce.
    3. The movie strongly advocates faith, family, and Christian values.
    4. It dramatically displays the power of forgiveness.
    5. The film is a product of Sherwood Pictures, a media ministry that grew out of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, whose goal is to reach the world for Christ.
    6. Fireproof presents God as the source of unconditional love.
    7. You can take the same 40-day challenge as Caleb does in Fireproof with The Love Dare.
    8. The profits from Sherwood's last film, Facing the Giants, were used to build a sports complex to serve the needs of youth in Albany, Georgia, and to show them the love of Christ in community.
    9. No matter where your marriage is, you can relate to the real-life struggles portrayed in this film.
    10. Fireproof reminds us that no situation is too desperate for God to redeem—that with God, all things are possible.
    11. Filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick credit this film, and its focus on marriage, as being not just a good idea, but a God idea.
    12. Any movie that has in its credits a "prayer coordinator," you should see.

    What Are You Reading?

    Grace and peace to you!

Recently, I read a blog entry on SisterFaitha social-networking site created by Christian novelist Marilynn Griffith. She asked readers, “What are you reading today?” She comments that reading is the one thing that all successful people have in common. In Marilynn’s words, “Readers rule the world!”

    And I agree with her.

    What Constitutes Sin?

Recently, I received a question about "what actually constitutes sin.” The person who posed the question was concerned about her thoughts about a certain sin and whether God considered her thoughts to be just as sinful as the act itself.

After praying for an answer from the Lord, here’s what He gave me to write to her. I’d appreciate your comments as well:

    Two Are Better Than One

Grace and peace to you, my friends!

It’s been a while since I’ve been out here. Other priorities have kept me away for nearly a month. But praise be to God who gives us strength to do all that He has called us to do, in His time!

I’d like to share a message forwarded to me by a friend this morning. It’s short, sweet and very much to the point. And it’s a message that believers—and everyone else, for that matter—need to take to heart.

    Taking Your Spiritual Temperature

By Simon MacInnis, Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

As we continue the daily journey of our Christian life, it's important for us to take our spiritual temperature. How hungry are we to walk with Jesus? How excited are we about where we are in our walk with God? Are we feeling frustrated, or a little depressed, about our inability to get excited about our walk with God? Maybe you feel like I did for many years.
