Acts 2Living Bible Seven weeks had gone by since Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the Day of Pentecost had now arrived. As the believers met together that day,2suddenly there was a sound like the roaring of a mighty windstorm in the skies above them and it filled the house where they were meeting.3Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on their heads.4And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in languages they didn’t know,or the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.5Many godly Jews were in Jerusalem that day for the religious celebrations, having arrived from many nations I will pour out my Holy Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men dream dreams.18 Yes, the Holy Spirit shall come upon all my servants, men and women alike, and they shall prophesy. 19 And I will cause strange demonstrations in the heavens and on the earth—blood and fire and clouds of smoke;21 But anyone who asks for mercy from the Lord shall have it and shall be saved.Romans8The Holy Spirit Gives Life8 Those who belong to Christ Jesus are no longer under God’s judgment. 2 Because of what Christ Jesus has done, you are free. You are now controlled by the law of the Holy Spirit who gives you life. The law of the Spirit frees you from the law of sin that brings death.3The written law was made weak by the power of sin.But God did what the written law could not do.He made his Son to be like those who live under the power of sin. God sent him to be an offering for sin. Jesus suffered God’s judgment against our sin.4The power of sin should no longer control the way we live. The Holy Spirit should control the way we live.
