This week I want to talk about social consciousness as entrepreneurs.  Charles Dickens wrote, "A Christmas Carol" in 1843 and it became an instant hit.  The main character is a miserly businessman named Ebenezer Scrooge who has an awakening one Christmas Eve after he is visited by the ghost of his old business partner, Jacob Marley.  Jacob returns from the dead to tell his old friend that three ghosts will visit him throughout the night.  The ghosts guide Scrooge to his past, present and future and show him how his life will end up if he doesn't change his miserly ways.  Scrooge emerges from this harrowing evening with the ghosts as a new man and dedicates the remainder of his life to alleviating the misery of his fellow human beings.

This story will serve as a background to this episode.  I want to highlight the importance social consciousness plays in the mission of the Entrepreneur.  We do not live in a vacuum and the misery our fellow human beings suffer affects us and our bottom line.

I suggest you take the time to read "A Christmas Carol" before this episode airs.  The book is still in print and is sold in bookstores or online.
