One cannot read this section of Peter without a sense of foreboding. World-shattering judgment was looming. God's people needed to be prepared heart and mind for it.

What would be the lot of those who mock sober choices?
Does God care when His people are maligned?
What was God's purpose in the Gospel? Can dead people really live again?
What about personal vigilence? What about my brothers' needs?
