These were hand-trained men, these shepherds from Ephesus. For three years Paul worked with them by word and by example. Now, he would never see them again; they would be on their own, leading, feeding and protecting the church that Jesus poured out His blood to purchase.

What would that "look like"? What was expected of them? What tools did Paul leave with them for the task ahead? And, what dangers did they need to be alert to?

In a stirring speech that reminds us of Ezekiel's call to be watchman (Ezek. 3), Paul challenged and charged these men to "Shepherd the flock of God which He purchased with His own blood."
