The mill later burned in 1977. The Mill Village has a wonderful as well as a dark history. Mill workers and their families thrived in the village. As with many mill villages scattered around the South, mills provided a living for locals. The villages also housed some unsavory characters like Boyce Liverett. On Aug. 21, 1966: While attempting to serve two warrants to 62-year-old Boyce Liverett Deputy Joe Burns was shot in the arm by Liverett.Sheriff David Oaks was shot to death during a call on Aug. 21, 1966 Locals have trespassed on the property for decades searching for ghost or spirt activity. Some locals have stolen from the property while others vandalized the property.
