Ebay is stepping up their marketing to enlist sellers to speak out on ONLY topics that affect EBAY REGULATION.  They sent out a message titled

protect your business--join eBay Main Street

Ebay says they're trying to help PROTECT sellers from harmful legislation but the reality is, they want to use you like a poster child to fuel their agenda

SSTA / Remote Sales Tax  - Well that's going to happen and you can't repeal that. But what you CAN SAY IS YOU can tell your Congress that you want them to have the VENUE and MONEY PEOPLE do the recording and sales tax collection. Ebay wants to say boohoo its too much for our sellers, but the reality is, ebay doesn't want to have to do it. It TOTALLY makes sense for ebay/paypal to do this portion, so you bring it to your government and tell them, I want to get EBAY and PAYPAL to do it because I'm a small businesss and they have the resources. And by the way, ebay will HAVE to do it because they have to assign the tax tables in the listing form. So its not like they dont have the resources or wont have to do changes. PLUS. what do you think is going to happen if you do a refund via paypal? It will HAVE to recalculate the sales tax. Who does that? It will be Paypal

2) "Stolen Goods" legislation
Representatives of some of the nation's largest retailers recently claimed that many eBay sellers are listing stolen goods, a baseless charge that hurts every honest seller. Big retailers are pushing legislation to prohibit some eBay categories and require sellers to post their personal information and show receipts for the purchase of merchandise sold online.

That's what Ebay is saying but hey dont you think that if they had real verification of the accounts to begin with and enforcement of the scummy sellers that are there, that this wouldn't be a problem to begin with? Ebay has defended themselves that they are not there to POLICE or ENFORCE. We all know they should of been doing that to begin with. What ebays afraid of is that they're afraid that maybe you could go and snitch them out to the retailers and let them know someone is fencing their stuff on ebay. Ebay created the problem and they want you to partner with them to get what they want. The benefit to you is secondary. Hey we all know ebay is wanting those big retailers to COME ON THE SITE as diamond sellers. What's going to happen to you? They'll give you the boot without thinking of your small business.

I thought this comment was hilarious

"
All of these threats and more face small entrepreneurial retailers using the Internet to compete and survive in this economic climate. The eBay Government Relations team is working to protect eBay sellers from harmful legislation in both Congress and state capitals. But we need your help--and your voice--to make a major impact."

how about this? How about you tell Congress you want them to regulate paypal. How about you ask them why its alright they can put 21 day holds on your small business. How about you ask them why paypal can run a credit report on you when they are not extending you any money.

Oh yeah I totally believe you should contact your Congress but I totally believe that you better do it direct and not risk the chance they are screening your memos so that you dont reach out to them and tell them about what you really think of them!
