It's the Fruity & Friends Show If you don't laugh, you'll cry! We just get a few people together as friends and talk about what we're seeing. Laugh, cry, yell, poke fun. I set this up because I didn't feel end users and my small seller friends views were being represented. Plus excessive change and stress levels are at an all-time high. This way it's therapeutic, you just get it off your chest and feel like you are not alone. Uncensored, unscripted. You don't have to deal with canned speak or some poop polished hired blogger who ain't never bought or sold around here to tell you what's going on, lol. Anyone can get your own free talk radio show and broadcast yourself! If you have any suggestions on topics feel free to comment or message me through the radio system

    Ebay outage update

An update to the ebay outage, it is still down. Just to keep you all up to speed, ebay had been feverishly doing code or system changes to the site, no doubt to prepare for the holiday season and possibly support all the big time retailers who they are bringing on to the site.

11/18/09 08:57AM PST/PT Scheduled maintenance from approximately 23:00 PT (11pm) on Thursday, November 19th to 01:00 PT (1am) on Friday, November 20th. During this maintenance period, certain eBay site features may be intermittently unavailable or slow.  This is normal in that they always use that for their weekly but hmm

11/21/09 earliest siting was at 5am PST where small business reported not being able to access red door icon (to the store). Others confirmed this

later others were seeing that they could not access "view items" from within a listing. Delays, delays, delays.
Then the error messages began for buyers who were performing shopping searches

    ***Original: Slowness in Search Results***
We are experiencing some issues with a delay in search being displayed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing. We are working to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

***Updated: Issues with Search results and eBay Stores***
Due to errors in some of our backend systems, members may be seeing different errors in Search. This could be that "We were unable to run the search results you entered. Please try again in a few minutes" or a blank page, or simply the browser being unable to display the page.

This is also affecting the ability to access eBay Stores through search directly, and sometimes from the store URL.

Please note that we are working as quickly as possible to get this resolved. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work to resolve this.

Then this pathetic workaround. As if the buyer is even going to see this? Sheesh, you go to the homepage and type in a search and it says ZERO RESULTS.

Workarounds - Buy It Now Search and Advanced Search
If you use the Advanced Search option at the top of the page, and type in your search query and click the title and description box and then run the search, the results for the title and description search will be returned.

Alternatively, if you receive a 0 results page for title search and click the Buy It Now tab (or choose the title and description box and re-run the search), you'll see the (Buy It Now or title and description) results for your search query.

Please note that we are working as quickly as possible to get this resolved. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work to resolve this.

    Sellers businesses impacted:
    http://forums.ebay.com/db2/forum/Ebay-Stores/21
    http://forums.ebay.com/db2/forum/Seller-Central/143

Small Businesses are impacted, While this site is down, ebay is still collecting listing fees and not informing small businesses that their own site is down. Ebay has a history of not wanting to give any refunds, they like to play it off as nothing. The last time when a refund was due to sellers, ebay said they would issue refunds and then it took a news write to find out that ebay decided they would not.

Ebay shouldn't have been tinkering with the site so close to the holiday. Maybe if they planned this out then this would not have happened. As of this writing, ebay is still not supporting users on the community boards. The community that ebay so greatly said was the heart of its site.

Many of us believe that with ebays eagerness to redo their site to make it look spiffy to compete with the likes of retailers like Amazon, that their were asleep at the wheel.

I personally believe that once Maynard Webb left, that these search problems began. And they have a trait that looks very much like disappearing/reappearing listings that many of us experienced. Ebay blew that off too and many small businesses were left with no means to recover their listings. If you are reading this and you are writing about this problem, please make it a point to get some confirmation about what are they going to do to compensate these small businesses and what are they going to do to implement an effective schedule and communciation procedure.

    Thank you!

    Ebay Customer Service Case #1

12 days of torture with ebay customer service. premium customer service no less. 12 days & all they did was loop me with form emails blaming me the paying consumer, blaming the cookie monster. Then they close the TICKET despite the fact its still unresolved. Monday I'm calling the FTC toll free number where they'll take my complaint on the phone. And I'm filing a complaint also with the Better Business Bureau

Ebay using the sellers as shields to influence congress

Ebay is stepping up their marketing to enlist sellers to speak out on ONLY topics that affect EBAY REGULATION.  They sent out a message titled

protect your business--join eBay Main Street

Ebay says they're trying to help PROTECT sellers from harmful legislation but the reality is, they want to use you like a poster child to fuel their agenda

SSTA / Remote Sales Tax  - Well that's going to happen and you can't repeal that. But what you CAN SAY IS YOU can tell your Congress that you want them to have the VENUE and MONEY PEOPLE do the recording and sales tax collection. Ebay wants to say boohoo its too much for our sellers, but the reality is, ebay doesn't want to have to do it. It TOTALLY makes sense for ebay/paypal to do this portion, so you bring it to your government and tell them, I want to get EBAY and PAYPAL to do it because I'm a small businesss and they have the resources. And by the way, ebay will HAVE to do it because they have to assign the tax tables in the listing form. So its not like they dont have the resources or wont have to do changes. PLUS. what do you think is going to happen if you do a refund via paypal? It will HAVE to recalculate the sales tax. Who does that? It will be Paypal

    2) "Stolen Goods" legislation
Representatives of some of the nation's largest retailers recently claimed that many eBay sellers are listing stolen goods, a baseless charge that hurts every honest seller. Big retailers are pushing legislation to prohibit some eBay categories and require sellers to post their personal information and show receipts for the purchase of merchandise sold online.

That's what Ebay is saying but hey dont you think that if they had real verification of the accounts to begin with and enforcement of the scummy sellers that are there, that this wouldn't be a problem to begin with? Ebay has defended themselves that they are not there to POLICE or ENFORCE. We all know they should of been doing that to begin with. What ebays afraid of is that they're afraid that maybe you could go and snitch them out to the retailers and let them know someone is fencing their stuff on ebay. Ebay created the problem and they want you to partner with them to get what they want. The benefit to you is secondary. Hey we all know ebay is wanting those big retailers to COME ON THE SITE as diamond sellers. What's going to happen to you? They'll give you the boot without thinking of your small business.

I thought this comment was hilarious

    "
All of these threats and more face small entrepreneurial retailers using the Internet to compete and survive in this economic climate. The eBay Government Relations team is working to protect eBay sellers from harmful legislation in both Congress and state capitals. But we need your help--and your voice--to make a major impact."

how about this? How about you tell Congress you want them to regulate paypal. How about you ask them why its alright they can put 21 day holds on your small business. How about you ask them why paypal can run a credit report on you when they are not extending you any money.

Oh yeah I totally believe you should contact your Congress but I totally believe that you better do it direct and not risk the chance they are screening your memos so that you dont reach out to them and tell them about what you really think of them!

Management of United States Postal Service, diluting the American public of services

I read today that the USPS went to the Senate to ask them to change the law on the books that required them to deliver mail 6 days a week, so they could stop delivery on a day. Because the post office is BROKE they want to penalize all Americans. You know, sure who wants to see the bill on Saturday, right? But the postal service is not really up to par with competitors like UPS, Fedex and DHL in as far as they will work with volume shippers and give them discounted rates. You know what the USPS did? They partnered with Ebay years ago so ebay could have their boxes branded with the postal service. Who paid for THAT! And Ebay knows all those half a million plus small businesses are using or were using PAYPAL to ship their products. But the postal service wont' budge an inch to offer discounts to those smal businesses.

Maybe the Senators need to ask USPS what business contract they have with PAYPAL & paypal, whether they are giving Paypal a deep volume discount which is more than realistic is happening. But does Ebay/Paypal give it to the sellers who are shipping? No, they don't! And what happens, small businesses are taking their business to Fedex and UPS and DHL because they will WORK WITH THE SMALL BUSINESSES. I think that we are starting to see just how much of an impact the small businesses on the internet engaging in ecommerce affects our economy. I am really upset that the postal service is even considering cutting out a single day. Ebay puts us up against the wall with these shipping times. So its critical that shipping happen right away. You know I find it very strange that just prior to this being announced, ebay started sending surveys to some of their sellers asking about whether we would do fulfillment center shipping. What that means is that we ship all our products to these centers & ebay does the shipping. That would allow them to get corporate deep discounts which means basically it costs NOTHING to ship. That just means there will be even MORE lost to the post office. Maybe the post office was too dependent on "eBay" sending them business that they're now seeing ebay might be looking elsewhere and now crawling to Capitol Hill for basically a get out of jail card. This will also cause them to have to lay off postal workers, who are already up against the wall. My post man of 12 years, who was in his 60s. Always happy, always there, always reliable. He got laid off because of consolidation. They laid off a clerk because now they have the self serve postage machines. Why is it ALWAYS tolerable to EXPENSE and DISPOSE of  PEOPLE before looking at ways to cut unnecessary expenses.

US Postmaster General John E. Potter  "Faced with dwindling mail volume and rising costs, the post office was $2.8 billion in the red last year. "If current trends continue, we could experience a net loss of $6 billion or more this fiscal year,"

Senator Susan Collins expressed concerns over the Post Offices' claim. She issued a statement today via the GL & Governmental Affairs website
    http://hsgac.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?Fuseaction=PressReleases.Home&Affiliation=R

You know what I think? I think that this year is the reckoning. Where the thrown in the basement small businesses sellers on the internet are gonna be heard by our Government. We told you and no one listened to us then. We told you about the need to regulate, we told you about unregulated financial banking  / financial services. We may have an even great affect than the Auto Industry. 724,000 businesses at one point selling most or all to get their earnings. Factor in the casual sellers, we are talking easily a MILLION SMALL BUSINESSES WHO COULD OF BEEN SHIPPING BILLIONS OF USPS PACKAGES

Look at this quote you turkeys! From the same Potter guy who is all over the Senate committee. Quoted by the New York Times in 2006

EBay shippers, said Mr. Potter in a recent interview, have accounted for more than $1 billion worth of postage since the Postal Service started working with the company in 2004.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/02/business/02postal.html

Oh yeah, he's quoted all over even ebays investor relations page. 724,000 Americans selling online. You think that doesn't have an impact?
