From Emancipation To Equality: Race, Gender, and the Transformation from ‘Rights of Man’ to Human Rights.

Emily Musil Church is a professor in the History Department at Lafayette College, in Easton, PA where she teaches courses on African history, women’s and gender studies, world history, and human rights.  She taught previously at Trinity College in Hartford, CT and American University in Washington DC. She received her Ph.D. in 2007 from UCLA and is the recipient of a number of awards including a Fulbright-Hays.  She has conducted overseas research in Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean and has lectured across the country at institutions such as Yale University, Penn State, Wesleyan University, Cal State-Northridge, and the University of Connecticut School of Law.  Dr. Church is currently on leave from Lafayette as a Research Scholar at the UCLA Center for the Study of Women so she can work on her book project currently entitled From Emancipation To Equality: Race, Gender, and the Transformation from ‘Rights of Man’ to Human Rights. She is a member of Women, Action, Media, a consultant for Nomadic Wax, was a participant this year in The Op-Ed Project, and blogs for Ms. Magazine.
