BettyJean speaks with Barry Goldstein about Violence against Women

Barry Goldstein is known for his work on custody issues on behalf of protective mothers, but for the last eleven years Barry has been an instructor and supervisor in a NY Model Batterer Program. Barry will discuss the benefits and risks of batterer programs and his concern about programs that state or imply they can change men's behaviors. Accountability and monitoring are the only practices that have been shown to discourage men's violence, but a batterer industry has developed to make money off of women's misery. He will speak about how an ethical program should work and what women can expect. Barry recently wrote an article for the NCADV with Phyllis B. Frank about accountable language and will also discuss this topic on the show.

Barry Goldstein is a nationally recognized domestic violence expert, speaker, consultant and advocate. He is the co-editor with Dr. Mo Therese Hannah of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ABUSE and CHILD CUSTODY. He is also author of SCARED TO LEAVE AFRAID TO STAY. Barry practiced law for thirty years until the court system retaliated against him for exposing an abusive judge. He received the Believer Award from the Battered Mothers Custody Conference and Brother Peace Award from NOMAS in appreciation for his courage in speaking out about a custody court system that routinely places children in danger.
